WHAT IS HEX7?
hexseven.com is a domain that sat unused for over a decade. HEX7 is what it became: a small, deterministic generative art playground built around seven classical algorithms and a single shared seed — the hex of the current moment.
Every visit renders something that has never existed before and will, statistically, never exist again. You can capture the moment — save the piece to your local gallery, copy its URL, or export it at print resolution.
THE SEVEN
- 0x1FLOW· flow fields
Particles surrendered to an invisible current. A Perlin noise field directs each walker; their trails remember the shape of the wind.
- 0x2CELLULAR· cellular automata
Simple rules, impossible emergence. Neighbors whisper to neighbors until a world appears. Conway and his descendants.
- 0x3LSYSTEM· l-systems
Growth by rewrite. A string becomes a branch becomes a tree becomes a forest. Fractals with the patience of botany.
- 0x4VORONOI· voronoi tessellation
Territory drawn between points. Each pixel claims its nearest seed. The negative space of distance.
- 0x5REACTION· reaction–diffusion
Two substances in an unstable pact. Gray-Scott equations paint the skin of every living thing.
- 0x6ATTRACTOR· strange attractors
Chaos with a center. A point orbits a phantom and leaves a figure behind. Lorenz, De Jong, Clifford — ghosts in phase space.
- 0x7WFC· wave function collapse
Tiles argue with their neighbors until only one possibility remains. Sudoku as landscape generator.
THE SEED
Each piece is fully determined by a single 32-bit seed, rendered to you as 8 hex characters. By default, the seed is the current time in milliseconds, masked to 32 bits — so every instant has its own art.
You can also provide a custom seed. Any 1–8 hex characters will do. hexseven.com/flow/?s=0a3f91c4 will always render the same piece.
PRIVACY
No analytics, no cookies, no accounts, no network requests beyond the static files that make this site. Your gallery is stored only in your browser's localStorage, and clearing site data erases it.
COLOPHON
Built with Next.js, Tailwind, and a hand-rolled Canvas 2D renderer. Typeset in JetBrains Mono. Exported statically. Served without ceremony.
